I'm taking the day off tomorrow. Why? BECAUSE IT IS DONE! The Augmented Reality Sandbox is complete, it's functional, and it's REALLY FUN! Sorry for all the caps. I am very excited. I think it may be the only one in BC from what I can tell, and it's certainly the only one in a BC Museum. Not bad for a tiny little community museum with only 2 full time staff! It works, too...not as well as it should; it will still probably need a few hours of tweaking and recalibration (the metrics are off by about 2" on the outer edges...but still!)
I finished it just a few hours before our annual holiday party with our volunteers and Friends of the Museum Society, who funded the project to begin with - very fitting, I thought. I think it's a wonderful thing that the people who believe in the project enough to fund it were the first in our community to see first hand just how cool it really is.
Pictures don't really do it justice. I'll post a video when I can.
It was so much fun that I had to ask people to give it a rest so I could shut it down and go home for the night.
For anyone who wants to play, it's located at the Penticton Museum and Archives (785 Main st, Penticton).
